• RAID – (Redundand Array of Independent Disks) – needs all disks to have same capacity
  • LVM – (Logical Volume Manager) – can use different disks together as one logical volume

RAID:

  • RAID 0 – no mirroring, striping (should distribute parts of file over all disks to get parallel read/ writes)
  • RAID 1 – mirroring
  • RAID 5 – no mirroring but parity disk
  • RAID 10 – mirroring + striping

We can combine RAID arrays in LVM
